Belmont soundly beat their first two opponents in the MHSSA Class 2A playoffs, but Coach Chris Higginbottom says the easier opponents are in the past.
“We will have a challenge playing the 2A MHSAA Miss Basketball Player of the Year and Walnut Wednesday afternoon,” said Coach Higginbottom.
Belmont plays Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the quarterfinals at Mississippi Valley State.
If they win the Walnut game, they play in the semifinals Tuesday, February 28th in the Big House, Mississippi Coliseum, in Jackson.
First and Second Round wins
Last Friday, in the second round of playoffs, the Lady Cardinals beat Calhoun City 66-19. Leading scorers were Mary Grace Stoment with 16 points; Carlie Brock with 13, Hailey Bledsoe with 11 points, and McKinley Bennett with 10.
In the first round game against Leland last Monday, Belmont won 73-14. Brock had 12 points; Bennett and Bledsoe had 11 each and Storment and Sadie Holt had 10 points each.
