Obie Boyd Ferguson, 76, of Iuka went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 18, 2024. Boyd was a devoted husband to wife, Ann; loving father to Keith; and proud grandfather of Dean.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2024, at Moore Memorial Methodist Church in Winona with burial following in Liberty Chapel Methodist Cemetery in Attala County. Rev. Neville S. Vanderburg and Mr. Leslie Ferguson officiated the service. Pallbearers were Ty Ferguson, Connor Ferguson, Fields Ferguson, Marvin Cochran, Adam Boggan, Hector Flores, and Sam Walley. Honorary pallbearers were Jeffrey Mosley, Lucas Ferguson, and Billy Bridges.

Visitation was held Monday, July 22, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.

Born December 17, 1947, in Arcola to Obie Bell Ferguson and Eura McCain Ferguson, Boyd graduated from Hollandale High School in 1967. He went on to attend Clarke College in Meridian, where he majored in music, and Mississippi State University.

On June 21, 1970, Boyd married Ann Reynolds at Avon Methodist Church. The couple settled in Swiftwater, and Boyd began a long career in agriculture – working for his father-in-law’s cotton gin in Avon as well as the BASF Research Farm.

After the birth of their son, Keith, in 1974, the family relocated to Choctaw County where Boyd worked for the Mississippi State Research Farm and farmed on his own.

In 1980, the family returned to the Delta after Boyd was hired as farm manager for a large Plantation in Washington County. In 1990, Boyd ventured out of farming and launched his own business, Dirty Works Farm Service, a commercial spray service.

In 2001, Boyd and Ann purchased a vacation retreat in Tishomingo County. The couple loved the area so much, they made it their permanent home. While there, Boyd worked for Pier 57 Marina Services. He also moved large vessels and yachts from northern waters to the Gulf Coast and back again in the warmer months.

Although he spent most of his life in agriculture, Boyd’s passion was the great outdoors. He loved deer hunting, becoming quite the expert in the science of hunting, hunting stand placement, and establishing shooting lanes at his hunting camp near Weir. Hunting and life at deer camp was something he thoroughly enjoyed, and he passed on this lifelong passion to his son, Keith, his nephews, and his grandson, Dean.

Boyd also enjoyed spending time in his vegetable garden, filling his freezer with fresh vegetables each summer and helping fill the freezers of his friends and neighbors.

Baptized in Swiftwater Baptist Church in Washington County, Boyd found comfort in his faith. After he married, he joined the United Methodist Church, becoming an active member of the church and often leading the congregation and church choir in music. He was deeply involved in the Walk to Emmaus ministry, eventually becoming a ministry leader for the spiritual retreats.

Boyd leaves behind his wife, Ann Reyolds Ferguson; son, Keith Ferguson (Amanda) of Carrollton; grandson, Dean Ferguson of Carrollton; sister Waurine “Renee” Ferguson Wally of Brandon; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Travis Ferguson of Greenville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to North Mississippi Emmaus Community.

Oliver Funeral Home of Winona handled the arrangements. An online guestbook may be signed at www.ofhwinona.com.
