Jimmy Carl McVay, 74, of Iuka, Mississippi, died on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka.

Jimmy was a hardworking man and a jack-of-all-trades that had many different careers throughout the years, including driving an ambulance, being an x-ray tech, helping build the waterway, working on the nuclear plant, and driving a school bus. The last of his careers was law enforcement, which he worked in for many years with both the MDOT and the Iuka Police Department before retiring. When Jimmy wasn’t working, he was coaching and umpiring for little league, softball, and baseball teams in the area. He was a huge fan of Ole Miss and the Atlanta Braves. In his free time, he loved to watch Westerns or be outdoors. He especially enjoyed deer and rabbit hunting. Jimmy was a loving and excellent father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and his family meant the world to him.

Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife, Charlotte McVay; his bonus daughter, Brandy Dodd (Chris); his grandchildren, John Kurtis Franks, Leigha Brown, and Charlotte Dodd; his great-granddaughter, Ashtyn; his sister, Wanda Sanderson (Larry); his niece, Kayla Robinson (Luke); his nephew, Eric Harris (Marlena); and a host of other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Hayley McVay Franks; his parents, Johnny and Gladys McVay; his brother, Danny McVay; and his mother- and father-in-law, Johnny and Daisy Briggs.

Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, MS, is entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 on Thursday, officiated by Rev. Dallas Culver and Jerry Long.

Pallbearers include Police Chief Randy Stringer, Sheriff Jamie Stuart, Ricky Higginbottom, Ricky Cornelison, Scott Marlin, and Chuck Dean. Honorary pallbearers include Billy McKissick, Mikey Shea, David Gist, and Tripp Lomenick. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
