Sammie Sims Gill, age 89, of Cropwell, Alabama passed away Saturday, October 29, 2022, at St Vincent’s Hospital, Birmingham. Sammie was born September 11, 1933, in Burnsville, Mississippi to Jessie Leonard and Clemmie Whitfield Sims. Sammie was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert Edmond Gill Jr, her parents Jessie and Clemmie Sims; 6 brothers, J.L., Billy, Robert, Tommy, Jack, and Joe. Sammie is survived by her four children: Robert Gill III (Karen) (Shaker Heights, Ohio), Kelley Howell (Avon, Indiana), Connie Bostany (Cecil) (Birmingham) and Barrett Gill (Yus) (Westfield, Indiana.) Grandchildren; Courtney Gill, Kelsey Gill, Mitchel Housmyer, Kimberlyn Howell, Christopher Bostany, Geoffrey Bostany & Thomas Bostany. As well as great-grandchildren; Hazel, Sloan & Maverick Housmyer. Sammie grew up in Tishomingo County, Mississippi, and attended UNA. She moved to Birmingham for work and met the love of her life, Robert. She and her family went all over the country from San Jose & Woodland Hills, California, Medina & Dayton, Ohio and Briarcliff Manor, New Yord before returning to Birmingham in 1979. However, that was short-lived with moves to New Jersey and Indiana before retiring in Debary, Florida for 22 years. She and Robert returned to Alabama in 2018 and loved living on Lake Logan Martin in Cropwell, Alabama. Sammie loved gardening, hosting her children and grandchildren as well as playing bridge monthly and attending Cropwell Baptist Church. She was deeply loved and will be missed by all.

Graveside services will be Saturday, November 5th, 2022, at 12 p.m. at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery 142 Co. Rd. 265 Burnsville, Mississippi with Earl McAnally officiating. Visitation will be prior to and immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, she would have wanted a donation to Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church
